Revival is Sweeping America!
By Daniel W. Jarvis
The winds of change are sweeping across America as never before. This revival is perhaps the greatest in the nation's history. By some standards, it may even be called the greatest revival in the history of the world. The evidences are everywhere, and are exponentially increasing on every front. Our society is in the midst of a great transformation--yet if you're not already on to where I'm going with this...I'm speaking about a revival of carnality--a revival of worldliness. This is perhaps the greatest hindrance to spiritual revival in the church today...we are in the midst of a great worldly revival. Think about some of the evidences:
- people are committed to this revival and its principles
to the point that they would give up anything to participate--even
health, wealth, and life itself.
- the devotion to the great revival cannot be underestimated
as millions pay their tithes to the local movie theaters to support
the propagation of sin on screens worldwide.
- missions giving has increased many times as willing participants
invest in their favorite music to broadcast the message of sin, suicide,
drugs, sexual impurity, and death to the far corners of the globe.
- the government has been literally transformed by this great carnal revival and has willingly disseminated its very foundational
principles such as evolution and humanism through schools, museums,
and public television.
- the population, filled to overflowing with this spirit who controls
the revival, gleefully attends services every night in the
comfort of their own homes. Those services which are particularly
long and helpful to the cause are put on video cassette, and millions
pay money to rent and watch them over and over again, soaking in every
last vestige of profanity, impurity, and killing.
- love gift offerings have skyrocketed in the form of lottery tickets
and gambling of all sorts.
- as with any true revival, the church itself has been impressively
impacted by this tidal wave of the spirit of the age, and has included
in its message a lawless gospel, flagrant promises of prosperity and
joy, and a man-centered outlook on salvation. Why, it seems
as if Christian retailers and musicians have tailored themselves to
be brought into close conformity to the world!
- people dress to make sure they identify with the great awakening,
and even Christians are often seen in immodest or rebelliously oriented
apparel; faithfully dressing in line with the sensual standards set
by the popular culture.
- university professors and school teachers are often great aids
to the propagation and continuation of the revival, even allowing
Darwinian thought and New Age concepts into their classrooms to be
digested by young minds not yet discerning enough to defend their
own views.
- even the corporate world is following suit, using immodesty, sex,
and greed to sell products to possession-hungry, credit card-wielding
consumers mad with desire for pleasure.
- and what can be said for the beloved media, that great revival force which is so set on the course of carnal awakening that it will not for a moment be polluted with any impure ideas such as "absolute morality" or "Christian ethics."
Yes, this revival tops them all. What effects it has had and still has today! Now, we see a great missionary movement being born out of the revival, as Americans travel worldwide promoting materialism, sexual perversion, abortion, and political leftism. As one great commentator on revival has said: "revival is falling in love with the world all over again."
*****Friends, America is in desperate condition. Those who believe that true spiritual awakening is occurring are gravely mistaken. Sure, there are flickers of hope here and there, but it is a far cry from a full-scale move of God upon a sin-infested country. We must pray and act now if we wish to see the tide turn. The call of God is clear: We must repent before Him and live holy lives for His glory alone. This is the price that we must be willing to pay in our personal lives if we ever wish to see spiritual revival in the USA.
"Awake unto righteousness and sin not!" (1 Cor. 15:34)
